Pelekas – Πέλεκας

Pelkas Overview
Pelekas is the place for you if you want to mix a family beach holiday with a Greek village experience.

Pelekas has many tavernas, bars and rooms to rent – which is unusual for an old village. This is because of the many returning visitors who come back year after year. as Having made friends with the locals over time, couples are now returning with their children to this very special part of Corfu . Many newcomers to the area are actually unaware of the village of Pelekas and its history. Pelekas is well worth your consideration

Location:              West Corfu
Corfu Airport:  12 km
Travel Time:     20 minutes by car or taxi

Accommodation in Pelekas
There are many apartments and rooms to rent in the village of Pelekas itself, as well as on the road down to the beach. There are a few local tavernas down by the sea where you can watch the sunset.

Swimming
The sea is perfect for swimming here and on windy days a lot of fun can be had as the waves come crashing in.

Access to Pelekas
Perched on a hill the village of Pelekas lies only 12 km west of Corfu airport.
To reach the resort and beach is only a short 20 minute downhill walk although it is not recommended for people with walking difficulties or wheelchairs.

Must See
At the top of the village is the Kaisers Throne viewpoint. From here you can see most of the Island looking north to the highest mountain, Mount Pantokrator.

Looking Further
To the East is Corfu town, the sea, the Greek mainland and Albania and to the south the villages of central Corfu. The sunrise and the sunset from Kaisers Throne are spectacular.

Pelekas in Years Gone By
The back packers came from Europe, Scandinavia, America and Australasia in their droves in the late 70’s and 80’s to camp on the long and wide sandy beach the locals call Kontagialos. They would sunbathe all day and then make the trek uphill to the village where they would party until the early hours.
